Custom field changes not showing the user

Requirement:

I created some custom fields. For some reason when we check the system information who made changes in that custom field its not showing the correct user who made the changes. instead whoever entered that form is showing that users name. is there anything I need to check for showing the correct user who made changes?

Solution:

Here are some potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

1. Field-Level Security:

  • Check Permissions: Ensure that the user who made the changes has the appropriate permissions to edit the custom field.
  • Verify Role Assignments: Confirm that the user’s role includes the necessary privileges.
  • Review Field-Level Security: If the field has specific security settings, ensure they allow the correct users to modify it.

2. Workflow or Script Interference:

  • Review Workflows: Check if any workflows or scripts are modifying the field’s value or user information.
  • Disable Customizations: Temporarily disable any custom workflows or scripts to isolate the issue.

3. System Configuration:

  • Audit Trail Settings: Verify that the audit trail is enabled for the custom field and that it’s configured to capture the correct user information.
  • Data Center Issues: In rare cases, temporary data center issues might affect user tracking.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Create a Test Record: Create a new record and test if the custom field correctly captures the user who made the changes.
  2. Disable Customizations: Temporarily disable any custom workflows or scripts to see if the issue persists.
  3. Check Audit Trail Settings: Verify that the audit trail is enabled for the custom field.
  4. Contact NetSuite Support: If you’re unable to resolve the issue after troubleshooting, reach out to NetSuite support for further assistance.

By systematically addressing these potential causes, we can identify the root of the problem and implement the necessary corrections.
