Requirement:
We have a client that wants its JE numbering (document number) to follow yearly sequence (ie. after 31/12/2023 the last’s journal entry number is JE2023-999, on 01/01/2024 the journal entry document number will be JE2024-1).
To do that we have to set up Advance Numbering Rules. To do so though we need to fix existing document numbering manually and set the rules from where they will stop. The client posted around 7.000 entries for 2024, 2025 (recurring expenses) and 2026 (recurring expenses)) that have taken “JE2023-” wrong prefix that have to be fixed manually and the rules based on the last journal entry number for each financial year.
Is there a way to set up Advance Numbering rules and run those rules to the existing entries in order to fix transactions numbering?
Solution:
As per checking this is still logged as an Enhancement and is documented in Enhancement: 653148 Advance Numbering = T > Ability to edit the document numbers or enable Allow Override.
Others have suggested to delete the records instead and reimport it. However, there are regions that do not allow deletion of records for audit purposes.. So its up to the users.
