We can record customer payments for multiple invoices within the same payment record. However, if a payment exceeds the invoice amount, the excess amount to be applied to invoices will appear under the “Credits” subtab of the customer payment record. This credit can then be applied to the corresponding invoice as needed.
If a customer has overpaid, the excess amount appears as a credit under the “Credits” subtab of the customer payment record. You can apply this extra amount to future or outstanding invoices by following these steps:
- Navigate to the Customer Payment Record:Go to Transactions > Customers > Record Customer Payment and locate the relevant payment.
- Check the Credits Subtab:Under the Credits subtab, you should see the excess amount available as a credit.
- Apply the Credit to an Invoice:Open a new Customer Payment transaction.
- Select the customer and check the Credits subtab.
- Apply the available credit to the outstanding invoice by marking the checkbox next to it.
- Save the Transaction:Once applied, click Save, and the excess payment will be offset against the selected invoice.
Alternatively, if no outstanding invoices exist, you can issue a Customer Refund if the excess payment needs to be returned to the customer.
