How to Test Saved Searches in NetSuite

Saved Searches are powerful tools used for reporting, alerts, and driving workflows. Testing ensures they return accurate and relevant results based on defined criteria and filters.

What to Validate in Saved Search Testing

1. Filters and Criteria

  • Open the saved search and review criteria.
  • Verify:
  • Fields used for filtering are appropriate (e.g., Subsidiary = India).
  • Logical operators (AND/OR) are correct.
  • Relative date ranges are used where needed (e.g., “Last 30 Days”).

2. Results Accuracy

  • Manually query the same data from the record type (e.g., open Customer records).
  • Confirm the number of results matches.
  • Verify key columns are populated as expected (e.g., GSTIN, PAN Number).

3. Highlighting and Summaries

  • Test conditional highlighting (if configured).
  • Validate summary types (Group, Count, Sum) for correct roll-ups.

4. Sorting and Display

  • Confirm columns are sorted by the correct field (e.g., Date descending).
  • Check if important fields are visible in the results tab.

5. Access and Permissions

  • Log in with a user who has view-only permissions.
  • Ensure the saved search is shared appropriately and doesn’t expose restricted data.

6. Email and Alerts (if Scheduled)

  • If the saved search is scheduled, verify:
  • The schedule runs at the right time.
  • Recipients receive accurate emails.
  • Email format and summary are correct.
