Solution for “An unexpected error has occurred” when viewing a Customer Deposit

Scenario:

When a User uses the Make Copy button on a Sales Order with Customer Deposit, the deposit is also being copied to the newly created Sales Order. There are some cases where an error is thrown when opening the Customer Deposit either from the original or copied Sales Order. Due to this error, the User may not be able to apply the Customer Deposit to the Invoice created from original Sales Order.

Solution:

  1. On the copied Sales Order page, click on Next Bill. This will be routed to an Invoice record.
  2. Click Save.
Note: The Invoice created will have a Paid in Full status. (Customer Deposit will be applied automatically)
  3. On the Invoice record created above > Related Records subtab > click on the Deposit Application Date link.
  4. Edit Deposit Application
  5. Un-apply Invoice created from copied Sales Order and apply correct/original Invoice.
  6. Click Save.

User should now be able to delete the Invoice created from copied Sales Order.

Since we cannot View/Edit the Customer Deposit to unlink the copied Sales Order, we can opt to close it by marking the Close checkbox in the item line. This will prevent other Users from processing this copied Sales Order.

Note: This solution may also be applicable when a User copied the Sales Order for testing purposes and want to delete the test order, but was not able to do so since there is a related record (Customer Deposit).
