 Commerce Categories

For creating a Commerce category you’ve to first Create a Commerce Catalog. Commerce categories are managed in the context of a commerce catalog.

1.  Navigate to Commerce > Content Management > Commerce Catalogs > New

and enter the following: 

• Site Name 
• Name 
• DESCRIPTION – Enter a meaningful description for the catalog.

2. Save the record and note the INTERNAL ID and SITE associated with the new catalog.

3. Edit the new Commerce Catalog record and select the Commerce Category subtab.

4. Any categories associated with the default catalog will be displayed here.

Create a New “Clothing” Root-Level Category.

5. Navigate to Commerce > Content Management > Commerce Categories > New and enter the following information: 

• NAME – Clothing
• DESCRIPTION – Enter a brief description of the category. 
• CATALOG – That you’ve created
• PRIMARY PARENT – Leave blank. You are creating a root-level (parent) category. 
• PAGE TITLE – Shop All Clothing 
• HEADING – Clothing 
• SEQUENCE NUMBER – Leave blank. 
• URL FRAGMENT – clothing 
• PAGE BANNER – Optional. If you would like to add a category banner, select the cat-clothing-banner.png file.
• DISPLAY IN WEB SITE – Yes

6. Save the record. Your new category will be listed on the Commerce Categories page. 

Create Subcategories under “Clothing”

7. Click New again and enter the following subcategory information: 

• NAME – Men’s

• DESCRIPTION – Enter a brief description of the category. 
• CATALOG  – That you’ve created
• PRIMARY PARENT – Clothing 
• PAGE TITLE – Shop Men’s Clothing 
• HEADING – Men’s Clothing 
• SEQUENCE NUMBER – Leave blank. 
• URL FRAGMENT – mens-clothing 
• PAGE BANNER – cat-mens-clothing-banner.png 
• THUMBNAIL IMAGE – cat-mens-clothing-thumb.png 
• DISPLAY IN WEB SITE – Yes

8. We’ve also called categories as parent category and subcategories as child category. And commerce catalog is common for all categories whether it’s parent category or child category.

Note :- You can do all these with CSV import as well but initially you’ve started with a NetSuite account it’ll be better to know the things and working of all the points and words in it.

While importing with CSV internal ID column is mandatory to create and you’ve to first check all the internal id’s or it’s cause to override into categories.
