Customer Project Functionality in NetSuite: An Efficient Approach to Field Sourcing in Transaction Search

NetSuite offers a Customer Project functionality that allows businesses to manage projects associated with specific customers effectively. However, when utilizing this functionality, sourcing fields using transaction search by filtering the customer internal ID can become challenging.

This is primarily because, when Customer Project functionality is activated, transactions related to projects are associated with project records rather than the customers directly. Consequently, attempting to filter transaction searches using the customer internal ID may not yield the desired results, as the project records hold precedence in these scenarios.

To overcome the challenges in Customer Records which have Project Records, businesses can adopt an alternative approach: filtering transaction searches using the “Customer from Project” fields. These fields provide a direct link between the project records and the customers involved.

To effectively filter transaction searches, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the transaction search.
  2. Add the desired transaction search criteria with suitable summary type.
  3. In the “Available Filter” section, locate the “Project: Customer” field.
  4. Run the search.
  5. Use this search to source the field value.
