NetSuite provides a standard feature to customize the starting Internal ID for custom records.
In some business requirements, you may need to use a custom internal sequence number starting from a specific number that aligns with your business process.
In that case, you can set an initial number in the Initial Number field under the Numbering subtab of the corresponding custom record type.
When configuring this, keep the following points in mind:
- Remove the Name field from the record if you are not using it and rely only on system numbering.
- Enable the Numbering (auto-numbering) checkbox under the Numbering subtab.
- Set the starting value in the Initial Number field under the Numbering subtab.
- The Initial Number must be higher than the Current Number value; otherwise, NetSuite will continue using the existing Current Number and will not restart from the Initial Number.
