Once the Advanced Revenue Management (Essentials) feature is enabled in NetSuite, it cannot be disabled through standard configuration. Attempting to disable it will result in the error:
“You cannot disable the Advanced Revenue Management (Essentials) feature once you have enabled it.”
This outlines two practical workarounds for organizations that do not require revenue deferral in their accounting process.
Workarounds
Option 1: Enable Direct Revenue Posting
To bypass deferred revenue and post directly to the revenue recognition account:
- Edit the Item Record.
- Navigate to the Revenue Recognition / Amortization subtab.
- Select the Direct Revenue Posting checkbox.
Important Notes:
- This option cannot be enabled if there are existing transactions for the item.
- To apply this setting, either delete existing transactions (not recommended) or create a new item.
- Recommended for a clean and permanent solution.
Option 2: Schedule Immediate Revenue Recognition
To retain existing items and transactions while releasing deferred revenue immediately:
- Navigate to Transactions > Financial > Schedule Revenue Recognition Journal Entries.
- Create a schedule that releases deferred revenue on the same day.
- (Optional) Use a Revenue Recognition Plan Saved Search to control which records are released.
