Disallowing Back-Ordered Items on Web Orders in SuiteCommerce Advanced Using Reference Checkout

SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) does not provide an option to set a default back-order preference in the Web Site Setup record, unlike Site Builder. Instead, the Out-of-Stock Behavior setting must be configured on each item record individually. To prevent back-ordered items from being purchased in your SuiteCommerce Advanced web store, navigate to the item record in NetSuite, go to the Web Store tab, locate the Out-of-Stock Behavior setting, and set it to Disallow back orders but display out-of-stock message.

With this configuration, customers can add out-of-stock items to the shopping cart, but when they proceed to the Review and Submit Orders page in Reference Checkout, an error message will appear upon clicking Place Order: “We are unable to place this order because one or more items in your order is not available in sufficient quantity. Please go back and reduce your order.” This ensures that no orders containing unavailable items can be processed, maintaining a smooth shopping experience while preventing fulfillment issues related to back-ordered products.
