Editing GST Tax rate rule to change rate

On Editing the GST Tax rate rule to change rate, the following error shows even if there are no associated transactions:

A HSN or SAC code can only have one GST rate in the same effective period.

Scenario

The SAC code “997331 Licensing services for the right to use computer software and databases” was configured with the rate 12% during rule setup. It was later found that the applicable rate for the rule is 18%. There are no associated transactions. On attempting to edit the tax rate rule, the error “A HSN or SAC code can only have one GST rate in the same effective period.” is showing and the change cannot be saved.

Workaround steps:

  • Edit the existing GST rule and without changing the rate, copy the effective from date and paste the same to the Valid Until date field.
  • Click Save.
  • Edit the rule again and remove the Valid until date. Then change the effective from date with the succeeding date. For instance, if the effective from date was 1/1/2020, change it to 2/1/2020.
  • Change the tax rate in the rule.
  • Click Save.
