Credit card payer authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Commerce website checkout. It allows customers to set up a password linked to their credit card, ensuring that the person using the card is the rightful owner. This helps protect businesses from chargebacks due to disputed transactions.
How Payer Authentication Works
When payer authentication is enabled, customers are redirected to a secure payer authentication site after submitting an order using a credit card. On this page, they can enter a password, create a new one, or skip the step. Once the process is complete, they are redirected back to your website’s order confirmation page. The order is then created in your NetSuite account.
A Payer Authentication Status field is added to sales orders to indicate whether the authentication was successful, failed, or skipped. For orders not submitted through your website, this field remains blank.
Supported Payment Gateways
Payer authentication is supported by the following credit card gateways:
- MerchantE
- CyberSource
- eWAY Rapid
- Payflow Pro
- WorldPay
How to Enable Payer Authentication
To enable payer authentication in NetSuite:
- Go to Setup > Accounting > Financial Statements > Payment Processing Profiles.
- Click Edit next to the credit card gateway you want to use.
- In the Primary area, check the Payer Authentication box.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
Once enabled, customers will be redirected to the payer authentication site after submitting an order with a credit card.
By enabling payer authentication, you can enhance the security of your online transactions and reduce the risk of chargebacks.
