Error “There is already an item with that name or name/parent combination” when Creating New Item or Matrix Item

The “Item Name/Number” serves as the unique primary key identifier for Item Records. The system allows users to enter the same Item Name/Number, provided the items are of different Item Types. A Matrix Item is an extension of a standard Item Type and is treated in line with its parent type; for instance, a Non-Inventory Matrix Item is considered Non-Inventory, and a Serialized Matrix Item remains Serialized Inventory.

Solution

For example, if there is a Serialized Inventory Item named “AAA,” the same name can be assigned to a Non-Serialized Inventory Item. However, attempting to create a new Serialized Inventory Matrix Item with this name will result in an error: “There is already an item with that name” for regular inventory items or “There is already an item with that name and parent combination” for matrix items.

To resolve this, edit the Item Name/Number of the Serialized Inventory Matrix Item by adding one or more characters before saving.
