In NetSuite, Custom Segments provide powerful ways to classify and analyze financial data based on business-specific dimensions. When working with the Budget Income Statement Report, users often seek flexible filtering options to view results for multiple custom segments or to leverage hierarchical inclusions using the ‘Children of’ functionality. However, as of now, multi-select filtering for Custom Segments, as well as the ‘Children of’ filter, are not available for this report.
These enhancements are recognized and are being tracked under Enhancement 370979: Improvements to reporting for Custom Segments.
As a practical workaround, users can modify the names of custom segment values by adding distinctive prefixes or suffixes. This allows the use of the ‘Contains’ filter option in the report, enabling broader yet targeted filtering based on segment naming conventions.
While this does not fully replicate multi-select or hierarchical filtering, it offers a viable interim solution until the enhancement is delivered.
To illustrate, suppose a user would like to filter their Budget Income Statement Report by a custom segment called “Countries,” which is structured as follows:
Since multi-select and ‘Children of’ filter options are not currently available for custom segments in this report, the user can employ a workaround. For example, they can rename their custom segment values to include the parent name as a prefix, such as “Asia Japan”, ”Asia Thailand”. This way, they can utilize the ‘Contains’ filter functionality in the report to capture all relevant segment values related to a particular region, such as all countries in Asia.
This method offers a practical, temporary solution until improved filtering features for custom segments are available in NetSuite.
