How to edit video in Blender?

Blender is a powerful and free open-source 3D creation suite that includes video editing capabilities. Here’s a basic guide on how to get started with video editing in Blender:

Basic Video Editing in Blender:

  1. Open Blender and Switch to Video Editing Layout:
  • Launch Blender and switch to the Video Editing layout by selecting it from the top menu bar or using the dropdown menu at the top-left corner of the screen.
  1. Import Video Footage:
  • Click on the “Add” menu or press Shift + A to add your video footage to the project. Select “Movie” and locate your video file.
  1. Timeline and Sequencer:
  • The timeline at the bottom of the screen is where you arrange and edit your clips. Drag and drop your video strip onto the timeline.
  1. Cutting and Trimming:
  • Use the K key to cut your clips at the desired frame. Select a portion of your clip and press X to delete or G to move.
  1. Adding Transitions:
  • Blender provides various transitions. To add a transition, select the point where two clips meet, right-click, and choose “Add” > “Effect Strip” > “Cross” or another transition type.
  1. Adding Effects:
  • You can add effects by selecting the clip, then going to the “Add” menu and choosing “Effect Strip.” This allows you to add color correction, blurs, and other effects.
  1. Adding Text:
  • To add text, press Shift + A, select “Text,” and position it on the screen. Adjust the text properties in the Text Editor.
  1. Adding Audio:
  • Import audio by selecting “Add” > “Sound” and choosing your audio file. You can then adjust the audio strip’s properties, cut, or move it on the timeline.
  1. Rendering the Video:
  • Once you are satisfied with your edit, go to the “Output Properties” tab on the right side and set your output format, resolution, and output directory. Click on the “Render” button to render your video.
  1. Save Your Project:
  • Save your project by going to “File” > “Save” or Ctrl + S. Blender uses .blend files for project files.
  1. Exporting the Video:
  • After rendering, you may want to export your final video. Go to “File” > “Export” > “Render Video” and choose your export settings.
