How to Set Up ACH Payments

To enable ACH payments on your Commerce site, you’ll need to complete two key steps:

  • Set up a Payment Instrument for ACH
  • Activate ACH Payment Options

Step 1: Setting Up a Payment Instrument for ACH

There are two ways to create a payment instrument:

  • Through NetSuite’s Order Management feature
  • Directly by the customer on your Commerce website

Before you begin, ensure the Payment Instruments feature is enabled. Navigate to:

Setup > Company > Enable Features > Transactions > Payment Processing

What Are Payment Instruments?

Payment Instruments simplify the use of various payment methods and enhance security—especially for card payments. These instruments allow you to charge a customer without requiring any action from them, provided a card token or “Card on File” option is already in place.

Important: Only use Payment Instruments with gateways that are natively integrated with NetSuite.

By default, new NetSuite accounts have this feature enabled.

Enabling the Payment Instruments Feature

Before activating Payment Instruments, make sure the Credit Card Payments feature is turned on.

To enable:

  1. Go to Setup > Company > Enable Features
  2. Open the Transactions tab
  3. Check the box for Payment Instruments
  4. Click Save

Manually Creating a Payment Instrument for a Customer

Once the feature is active, you can manually add a payment instrument to a customer record:

  1. Locate the customer via Lists > Relationships > Customers or the global search
  2. Open the Financial tab, then go to Payment Instruments
  3. Click New
  4. Under Primary Information, choose the instrument type (General Token or Payment Card Token)
  5. Fill in the required fields
  6. Click Save

Step 2: Enabling ACH Payments

ACH payments can be configured for both Make a Payment and Checkout flows via the SuiteCommerce Configuration record.

For “Make a Payment” Flow:

This allows customers to pay invoices from the My Account section.

To enable:

  1. Go to Commerce > Websites > Configuration
  2. Select your site and domain, then click Configure
  3. Navigate to the Payment Instruments & Methods tab
  4. Under the ACH subtab, check Enable ACH Payments for Make a Payment
  5. Click Save

For Checkout Flow:

ACH can be offered to both Company and Individual customer profiles.

To enable for Companies:

  1. Go to Commerce > Websites > Configuration
  2. Select your site and domain, then click Configure
  3. Navigate to the Payment Instruments & Methods tab
  4. Under the ACH subtab, check Enable ACH Payments from Companies Using Checkout
  5. Click Save

To enable for Individuals:

  1. Repeat the steps above
  2. Under the ACH subtab, check Enable ACH Payments from Individuals Using Checkout
  3. Click Save

By following these steps, you’ll successfully integrate ACH payment options into your SuiteCommerce site, offering customers a secure and flexible way to pay.
