Jira task cloning

In Jira, task cloning refers to the process of creating a new issue that is a copy of an existing issue. Cloning allows you to duplicate an issue along with its details, such as summary, description, assignee, and other fields. This can be useful when you want to create similar or related issues without manually entering all the information again.

To clone a task in Jira, you can typically follow these steps:

  1. Open the issue you want to clone.
  2. Look for the “More” button in the issue toolbar (usually represented by three dots (…)) and click on it.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select “Clone”.
  4. A new screen will appear, pre-filled with the details of the original issue.
  5. Modify any necessary information in the cloned issue, such as the summary or assignee.
  6. Click on the “Create” button to create the cloned issue.

Once the cloned issue is created, it will have a new issue key and can be managed separately from the original issue. You can then make any additional changes or updates to the cloned issue as needed.

Cloning issues can save time and effort, especially when dealing with repetitive or similar tasks. It allows for efficient creation of new issues based on existing ones, ensuring consistency and reducing manual data entry.
