“Next Bill” Button Not Available on Sales Order for Project with Time and Materials Billing Type

A user is attempting to bill a project with the Time and Materials Billing Type, but the Next Bill button is not appearing on the related Sales Order.

This issue may arise when the Service Item used in the actual time entry does not match the Service Item used on the Sales Order. The Next Bill button will only be available if the Service Item in the approved actual time entry is the same as the one set up on the Sales Order.

Steps to Check and Resolve:

  • Review the Approved Actual Time Entries:
  • Navigate to the Approved Actual Time Entry records related to the project.
  • Check the Service Item field used in the time entry.
  • Compare with Sales Order:
  • Open the Sales Order associated with the project.
  • Verify that the Service Item used in the time entry is also used on the Sales Order line items.
  • Ensure Matching Items:
  • If the Service Items do not match, the system will not recognize the time entry as billable for the sales order, resulting in the absence of the Next Bill button.
  • Correct the Service Items:
  • To resolve the issue, make sure the Service Item in the time entry aligns with the Service Item on the Sales Order.

Note: This is standard behavior in NetSuite to ensure that billing occurs correctly based on the items specified in both the time entries and sales orders. If this solution doesn’t resolve the issue, it might be necessary to investigate further, including verifying if there are any custom workflows or scripts that might be affecting the billing process.
