Resolve Error: “The Date Range You Specified does not Fall Inside that of the Parent Period When Create Base Period”

Scenario

When attempting to create or update a Base Period, users may encounter the error message: “The date range you specified does not fall inside that of the parent period.” This error occurs when the Start and End Dates of the Base Period do not align with the corresponding roll-up periods.

Solution

To resolve this issue when creating or updating an Accounting Period, it is essential to ensure that the Start and End Dates of the Accounting Period fall within the Start and End Dates of their relevant roll-up periods.

For Base Periods, users should review the tagged “Sub-Periods Of” records, which can be found under the Fiscal Calendars tab if using Multiple Calendars. Verify that the dates set for the Accounting Period being saved are within the Start and End Dates of the roll-up periods.

Example

Consider the following roll-up period:

  • Q1 20xx
  • Start Date: 12/31/20xx
  • End Date: 3/31/20xy

If you are setting up a Base Period as a Sub-Period of Q1 20xx, ensure that the Start Date is not before 12/31/20xx and the End Date is not after 3/31/20xy. If either of these dates falls outside this range, the error will be triggered.
