How to Fix Purchase by Vendor Summary Report Drill Down Access Issues

Sometimes a user can open the “Purchase by Vendor Summary” report in NetSuite but runs into an error when trying to drill down into vendor details. In other words, the summary works fine, but the user can’t see the underlying vendor records.

Why does this happen?

This usually happens because the role assigned to the user does not have permission to view vendor records.

Report permissions let them open the summary.

But without Vendor -> View access, the drill-down fails.

How do you check?

Log in with the same role as the user (or clone it in a test account).

Go to Reports -> Purchases -> Purchase by Vendor Summary.

Try drilling into a vendor name.

If you see an error, the role is missing vendor view access.

How do you fix it?

Go to Setup -> Users/Roles -> Manage Roles.

Edit the role the user is assigned to (example: Enduro Admin).

Under Permissions -> Lists, add:

Vendors -> View

Save the changes.

Have the user log out and log back in.

What should you see after fixing?

The user can still access the “Purchase by Vendor Summary” report.

They can now drill into vendor records without errors.

Quick tip

Whenever a report opens but drill-downs fail:

Don’t just check the report permissions.

Always confirm the role has record-level permissions for the type of data being drilled into (e.g., vendors, customers, items).
