In NetSuite, bulk emails can be sent to all active customers using the ‘Mail Merge’ feature. This is ideal for sending common emails, such as updates on current offers or other relevant information. Attachments can also be included in these emails.
To enable and properly use the ‘Mail Merge‘ feature, certain configurations and prerequisites must be addressed:
Configurations:
- We need to enable the Marketing Automation feature by navigating to Setup > Company > Enable Features > Under ‘CRM’ Subtab > Enable the ‘Marketing Automation’ feature > Save. During this process, we must accept the Terms of Service for NetSuite Mass E-Mail Messaging Services to proceed.

- Next, we need to update the Global Subscription Status of the customers to Soft Opt-In to allow them to receive bulk emails generated through the Mail Merge feature. This can be done manually by navigating to List > Relationships > Customers > Edit > Marketing Subtab and setting the Global Subscription Status or via mass updates.
(Soft Opt-In: Recipients with this status can receive opt-in messages and confirm their interest in receiving email campaigns. The Global Subscription Status field only affects email sent via campaigns and bulk merge.)
