To Enable the Suite Tax Feature

  1. Contact your NetSuite account manager and submit a SuiteTax enablement request with the help of NetSuite Customer Support. Your SuiteTax enablement request will be reviewed by the SuiteTax approval team. If your request has been approved, the SuiteTax feature will be shared to your NetSuite account.

To enable the SuiteTax feature, go to Setup > Company > Enable Features. Check the SuiteTax box on the Tax subtab, and click Save.

When the SuiteTax feature is enabled, the migration of tax-related records proceeds in the background. Enabling SuiteTax changes most of the tax-related records across NetSuite.

You can start using NetSuite partially even if migration is not yet completely finished. However, taxable transactions are initially locked for creation and editing after enabling SuiteTax. You need to complete the following required steps before you can create and edit taxable transactions:

1.Selecting a Tax Engine for Tax Registrations on Migrated Subsidiary Records

When legacy subsidiary records are migrated to SuiteTax, the Tax Engine column is added to the Tax Registrations subtab and its value is set to blank. To properly calculate taxes on a transaction, you must select the correct tax engine for each tax registration on subsidiary records.

A tax engine must be set up in your NetSuite account. For information about tax engine plug-in implementations, contact your NetSuite account manager.

To select the tax engine for tax registrations on migrated subsidiary records:

  1. Go to Setup > Company > Subsidiaries.
  2. Click the Edit link next to the subsidiary that you want to edit.
  3. On the subsidiary record, click the Tax Registrations subtab.
  4. Click the Tax Engine column for the tax registration line that you want to edit.
  5. Click the Tax Engine dropdown list and select a tax engine for the nexus. The list shows the tax engine implementations that have been added and activated in your account.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Repeat Steps 4 through 6 for each tax registration without a tax engine on the subsidiary record.
  8. Click Save.

Repeat this procedure for each migrated subsidiary record.

2.Confirm that the SuiteTax setup is complete.

Note The SuiteTax Engine cannot be used on Brazil and India nexuses.
