Test Progress Monitoring

The purpose of test monitoring is to gather information and provide feedback and visibility about test activities

  • Give the test item team and test manager feedback on how the testing is going.
  • Provide the project team with visibility about the test results.
  • Measure the test criteria or the testing tasks associated with the definition of done.
  • Gather data for use in estimating future test efforts.
  • Prove that the plan itself is right and that following it will eventually lead to the test objective.

Metrics Used in Testing

  • Progress against the planned schedule and budget
  • Currently quality of the test object
  • Adequacy of the test approach
  • Effectiveness of the test activities
  • Percentage of test case preparation work done
  • Percentage of test environment preparation work done
  • Test case execution
  • Defect information
  • Percentage of test coverage
  • Test completion, resource allocation and usage, and effort
  • Cost of testing
