Prerequisite when the journal lines are updated in NetSuite.

Scenario:

There are various prerequisites that we need to consider when updating the journal line name within NetSuite.

Solution:

  1. If the journals are in a closed accounting period, we need to reopen the accounting period.
  2. Ensure that all associated accounts are active.
  3. The subsidiaries associated with the transactions should be active.
  4. In a scenario where an empty name in the A/R accounts line journal needs to be updated with a new customer, ensure that all the subsidiaries associated with the transactions are added to the customer records.

Please note that the following errors could occur when updating the journal lines:

  • Reversal Journals could not be updated as they are system-generated.
  • Journals with different accounting periods concerning the transaction date cannot be edited. We need to either modify the date/period or allow the preference to allow transaction date outside the posting period.
  • Journals with numerous lines (e.g., 5000, 6000) cannot be updated as it would require more time, and we need to split the journal to check the possibility of an update due to the presence of numerous lines.
  • Additionally, the currency revaluation will be lost when updating the journal.
  • Also, make sure that other customer lines are not updated, as it could cause the removal of related transactions.
