Various Reasons for the Error Message: “Record has been changed”

Scenario

When saving a record, there are cases when it redirects to a page with a notice that either says “Record has been changed” or “The record has been edited since you retrieved it. Hit the back button and click Refresh/Reload to retrieve the updated record, then resubmit your changes.”

This error generally shows up when a record gets changed due to any of the scenarios mentioned below.

Solution
  • Two users have the same access to a record and then save the record at the same time.
  • A user has opened multiple browser tabs that show identical records. Editing the records simultaneously will initiate the notice message. This scenario also applies for multiple different browsers.
  • When a Script or a Workflow has updated a record while the user updates and then saves the changes to the same record.
  • When a workflow and script updates the record at the same time and one saved the record before the other finished executing.
