Warning Message during the creation of custom segment: “The custom record type name or custom field name entered already exists. Enter a different name”

To create a new custom segment:

1. Navigate to Customization > Lists, Records & Fields > Custom Segment.
2. Enter the required details such as the segment Name, ID, and other configuration settings.

Note: When attempting to save the segment, you may encounter the following message

“The custom record type name or custom field name entered already exists. Enter a different name.”

This means that the label you’ve chosen is already being used—either by an existing custom field, custom record type, or custom list.

To resolve this, simply update the segment Label to something unique. Once the label no longer matches any existing record or field, you’ll be able to save the custom segment successfully.
