Motion blur in Blender, as in other animation software, simulates the blurring effect that occurs when an object moves quickly across the screen or when the camera moves rapidly. It adds a sense of realism to animated scenes by mimicking the way objects appear blurry in photographs or video footage when they’re in motion.
In Blender, motion blur can be applied to both animated objects and the camera itself. When enabled, Blender calculates the motion of objects between frames and creates a blur effect based on their movement.
Here’s how to enable motion blur in Blender:
- Viewport Motion Blur:
- In the viewport, motion blur can be enabled to get a preview of how motion blur will look in the final render.
- Go to the “Render” tab in the Properties Editor.
- Under the “Motion Blur” section, check the “Motion Blur” checkbox.
- Adjust the “Shutter” value to control the amount of blur. A higher shutter value will result in more pronounced motion blur.
- Render Motion Blur:
- To enable motion blur in the final render:
- Go to the “Render Properties” tab in the Properties Editor.
- Under the “Motion Blur” section, check the “Motion Blur” checkbox.
- Adjust the “Shutter” value as desired.
- Object Motion Blur:
- Motion blur can be enabled on specific objects in the scene.
- Select the object you want to apply motion blur to.
- In the “Object Properties” tab, under the “Motion Blur” section, check the “Motion Blur” checkbox.
- Adjust the “Shutter” value if necessary.
- Camera Motion Blur:
- Motion blur can also be applied to the camera motion.
- In the “Output Properties” tab, under the “Motion Blur” section, check the “Motion Blur” checkbox.
- Adjust the “Shutter” value if necessary.
- Render the Animation:
- Once you’ve enabled motion blur and adjusted the settings, render your animation as usual.
- The motion blur effect will be visible in the rendered frames where there is significant motion.
