PutAway
Once an item is received, you must place the item in the warehouse for storage until it is shipped out. This process is called putaway. After it is put away into a storage location, the item is available for allocation to sales orders or transfer orders.
By default, NetSuite WMS is configured to suggest storage bin locations when you receive orders and customer returns.
Bin Replenishment
In WMS, bin replenishment can occur on the item and bin levels. Basically, WMS indicates how many items need to be replenished based on the following:
- Minimum Quantity – the threshold that triggers a replenishment to occur.
- Maximum Quantity – which is the maximum level that WMS will replenish up to.
Picking
Picking is to pull items from your warehouses inventory to fill an open order. When you pick an order using a wireless mobile device, NetSuite WMS guides you through the warehouse and suggests bin locations to pick the items from.
You can set preferred pick strategies to define where an item should be picked from when it is ordered.
Process Overview
The process starts when you receive an item into the warehouse and you must place the item into storage until it is shipped out. By default, WMS is configured to suggest storage locations as items are received. Order fulfillment begins when an ordered needs to be released out of the warehouse. This includes picking, packing, and shipping items. Once items are shipped, you can send a document such as a packing slip to customers to confirm that their order was shipped. When you process items in the warehouse, each transaction you enter updates NetSuite inventory records and reports in real-time, giving you precise information about your inventory.
These processes are accomplished by using the NetSuite WMS user interface and through a mobile handheld.
